It's time to protest again!

Tags: James Bergstrom, Evil Beside Her, Kathryn Casey

For all of you who've read EVIL BESIDE HER, it's time to e-mail or write letters again. James Edward Bergstrom, the psychopathic sexual predator in the book, is up for parole. Yes, I know, he got four 99-year sentences. But what does that mean? Apparently not as much time as the jurors wanted.

Bergstrom is a danger to society, especially women. If released, he will certainly victimize more women. He attacked 35 women in the Houston area in a two-year period, raping five of them, and he threatened to kill the last victim, a high school cheerleader.

Make your voice heard and keep Bergstrom behind bars. Here's how.

Write a letter of protest. Please be sure to include the following information:

His name: James Edward Bergstrom
His state ID: 04408281
TDCJ ID: 00659297

Then e-mail, fax or mail your protest letter to:

TDCJ Victim Services Division
8712 Shoal Creek Blvd, Ste 265
Austin, Texas 78757
Email: victim.svc@tdcj.state.tx.us
FAX: 512-452-0825

Be blunt about why you want Bergstrom in prison: because if he ever gets out, any woman who crosses his path is in danger.

I finished my first book by you today, 7/4/10, and learned about the protest to keep James Edward Bergstrom from being paroled. I emailed immediately, as well as forwarded my email to all of my contacts in the hope they would write as well, and highly recommended your excellent book, "Evil Beside Her". As a victim of a serial rapist in Los Angeles forty-five years ago, I know that the emotional scars never completely dissipate. It is real to me James Bergstrom will kill if he ever gets out. You're a hero to work to keep him in prison and to let your readers know how to help. Thank you!

I just finished your book "Evil Beside Her" and was thrilled that there was something that I could do to help this monster stay where he deserves to be, while on this earth! God Bless Linda,Ashley, you, and all the many victims of this devil-man! I realize this criminal did his best to ruin many lives, however, please hold your heads up and continue to be a positive testimony to the world of unknowing women in this world. There are so many terrible men waiting to prey on innocent victims, that need the courage and direction that only you can teach! Hold your heads up and yell from every pulpit available! I appreciate your strength, your story, and most of all, the person that you truly are inside! Thank you for letting the rest of us learn from your victimization, you are truly todays heros and deserve admiration from all!

    Dear Nadja and Cyndi,
Just noticed your comments. I'm so glad that you protested! How wonderful of you to help keep Bergstrom behind bars. Yes, Linda and James' other victims were all so generous with their stories. It's wonderful all Linda did to try to protect other women. I'm so sorry you were assaulted, Nadja. I'm glad you're willing to speak out about it. Women have stayed silent for far too long!

Just finished 'Evil Beside Her' for the second time as I could not believe that this kind of thing could happen in an alleged civilised society.

This thing [man] Bergstrom should be kept in prison until he is put in a box for dumpingin a swamp someplace.

His parents and brother should be sued by his victims [including his wife] for persistent covering up and lying for him..

Texas quick to execute and as quick to let monsters like him back in to society.

Excellent well written book in the AnnRule tradition

I just finished this book and want to protest if I am not too late. This is great of all of you and he needs to be kept there for life. I hope things are well with Linda and Ashley. Bless you for telling their story

I was molested by a ... man (our mom's husband, not our dad) when I was 14; my sister was 12. Only God knows what he did to our brother, who was only 7. He was acquitted of all charges for some reason. Fifteen years after the trial, 17 years after this happened to my family, there isn't a day that goes by when I don't think about it. We may not have seen justice, as I think he is still out there, hurting other children. But the women who were assaulted and raped by James Bergstrom can still have their chance to see justice as long as Bergstrom stays in jail.

Hi, I just finished your book regarding Bergstrom. It's Sept 2011 and I am wondering if he was paroled last year. I can't find anything on the web about it. I am so proud of Linda and don't know how she endured him and his stupid parents. I hope she is doing well now and her daughter as well. What a terrifying ordeal. That narcissistic jerk needs to stay where he is. Or perhaps Alcatraz all by his lonesome.

I was the Chief of the Boat on USS Ohio when Bergstrom began his series of crimes. He should rot behind bars.

I just finished your book. I was a victim at 4yrs old, 12yrs old and 24yrs old. Why didnt I report? Culturally, no one would have wanted to know. I remember every minute of these experiences. Even at 4. I knew it was wrong. I remember every second of that moment of terror.I so regret not having done anything about it. They were all people I knew. The only thing I did was to protect my little sister. I told the 2nd person that I would tell on him if he touched her. Thank you for your courage Linda. Thank you Kathryn for writing this book. I'll sign up and hope it's not too late

Someone, do not let this sick person out of prison! He needs to stay behind bars!!! If he is freed he will repeat himself as they usually do, he is a very dangerous subject to society. I would be horrified to cross paths with him!

I just finished Evil Beside Her as I read my way through all of Ms Casey's books. What a chilling story! I too was curious about his current status. I checked the TDCJ Offender Database, which can be done online. He is still in prison, thank God! He was denied parole in January 2014 and comes up for review again in January 2017. I live in the Houston area and the thought of this nightmare lose on our streets again makes me sick! Good job Ms Casey on helping to keep him locked up.

All I can say is I hope neither I nor any person see injustice right in front of their eyes, tell the police, tell parents, tell priests, tell friends, tell family, tell just about anybody and no one does a thing!! Instead offer advice like you have to adjust etc. I can only imagine the fear and pain linda must have gone through. God bless her and her daughter. James is just where he needs to be.
